Cambodia appreciates Vietnam’s support in fighting COVID-19

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn highly appreciated the aid and support of the Vietnamese Government and people for the fight against COVID-19 in Cambodia, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a press release issued on June 8.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Deputy Prime Ministerand Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn highly appreciated the aid and support of the Vietnamese Government and people for the fight againstCOVID-19 in Cambodia, the country’s Ministry ofForeign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a press release issued on June 8.

The press release informed on the outcomes of the Deputy PM and FM’s working visit to Chongqing,China on June 7 – 8 to attend the the ASEAN-China Special Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the 6th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Prak Sokhonn held a meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister BuiThanh Son on the sidelines of the ASEAN-China Special Foreign Ministers’Meeting, during which they exchangedviews on bilateral and multilateral cooperation of mutual interest,particularly preparations for the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations in 2022.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the enhanced traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation in many areas includingtrade, investment, health, education, tourism, and connectivity between the twocountries, which they said have been built upon the solid foundation of trust, mutual understanding,solidarity, and good neighborliness.

They noted with satisfaction the remarkable increase oftwo-way trade despite the challenges of COVID-19 as well as theoperation of the Meun Chey – Tan Nam International Border Check Pointby the authority of Cambodia’s Prey Veng province and Vietnam’s Tay Ninhprovince on May 31, which they said will facilitate cross-border trade andpeople-to-people connectivity.

The officials reaffirmed their strong commitment to workingclosely together to further enhance bilateral relations and multifacetedcooperation for mutual interest of the two nations and peoples.

They agreed to arrange the organisation of the 19th meeting of the JointCommittee for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) and the 7th PoliticalConsultations between the two foreign ministries.

Prak Sokhonn also accepted Son’s invitation to pay anofficial visit to Vietnam at an appropriate time. He also invited Son toco-chair the 19th JCBC meeting and pay an official visit to Cambodia./.
