Hanoi (VNA) - The on-time performance record of domesticVietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific and Vasco in September was 17,624flights, accounting for 86.3 percent of the total flights, up 1.6 points yearon year, according to the Civil Aviation Administrationof Vietnam (CAAV).

The punctuality rate for the national flagcarrier, Vietnam Airlines, was 86.1 percent, up 2.4 points while the rate of low-costVietjet was 84.1 percent in the month, a fall of 1.4 points year on year.

In theJanuary-September period, the four airlines together launched 205,811 flights,of which 180,432 took off on time, accounting for 87.7 percent, up 4.3 pointsyear on year.

Vietnam Airlines’ punctuality rate was 89.9 percent, up 6.9points; Vietjet’s and Jetstar’s were 85.4 percent and 82.3, respectively, both uptwo points; and Vasco’s was 96.7 percent, up 1.1 points year on year.

According to CAAV, the total number of delayedflights was 25,388.

Late return of planes was the main cause of the delays andcancellations, accounting for 8.3 percent.

Faults on the side of the airlines themselves were blamed for2.5 percent of not-on-time arrival rate.

Other reasons for delays and cancellationsincluded airports’ limited infrastructure and services, flight management andoperation, weather and technical issues, CAAV said.-VNA
