Hanoi (VNA) - Building new tours associated with Bach Diep (hundred-petal) lotus products of the land of Tay Ho (Tay Ho district) to promote and develop local sustainable tourism products will contribute to raising the status of the Capital’s tourism.
Promoting the value of Hanoi Lotus in contemporary life is the theme of an online conference organised by the People's Committee of Tay Ho District in collaboration with the Ha Noi Moi Newspaper and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi.
At the event, leaders of Tay Ho district said that in the coming time, they will coordinate with the municipal Department of Tourism to exploit more new lotus values, especially building new tours and routes associated with the Tay Ho Lotus Brand to promote and develop local sustainable tourism products.
Building new tours, and routes associated with lotus products
ﷺ Among the essential products that serve the daily lives of Vietnamese people, with the wisdom and skilful hands of artisans, lotus has become the main ingredient in making many OCOP products that are loved by domestic and international consumers. Products that have made a mark on the market include lotus silk scarves (expected to be recognised with 5 stars), Quang An lotus tea (4 stars), Me Linh lotus tea (4 stars). There are 3-star OCOP products such as lotus seed paste, lotus sticky rice, lotus and longan sweet soup, sugar-coated lotus seeds, and lotus milk. They have been exported to many countries around the world, winning consumers’ tastes.
To promote this advantage and expand the local lotus growing area, the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has assigned the Agricultural Extension Centre to deploy agricultural extension demonstration models and introduce new high-quality lotus varieties adapted to climate change.
The model has been carried out in Me Linh, My Duc, Thach That and Tay Ho districts, covering a total area of nearly 30 hectares.
In addition, authorities of Tay Ho district, in collaboration with competent agencies, is implementing a project on building a lotus production model associated with developing ecotourism in the value chain in Tay Ho.
Specifically, the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Centres has supported Tay Ho District with 7,000 Bach Diep lotus seedlings and lotus planting materials. Bach Diep Lotus gets its name from the hundreds of petals (Bach Diep) of all sizes that hug the yellow pistil so that it always retains its fragrance.
According to Vice Chairman of the Tay Ho district People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tinh, the district will coordinate with the municipal Department of Tourism to make use of new values from lotus, espcially lotus scented tea, new tours to promote local tourism products.
Tay Ho: the Capital's culture and tourism centre
The first edition of the lotus festival will take place from July 12-16 at the Cultural and Creative Space in Tay Ho district in a bid to promote the flower and its products as well as lotus-related tourism products.
The festival will include many activities to promote lotus, lotus products and One Commune-One Product (OCOP) products from the city and northern mountainous provinces. Within the framework of the festival, a workshop will take place on the conservation and development of Vietnamese lotus.
Tay Ho district will inaugurate a centre for OCOP product introduction and sale. There will be a lotus installation art space, an exhibition of lotus photos in the Vietnamese life, a promotion programme for Tay Ho district’s tourism, a music night featuring works by Vietnamese popular composer Trinh Cong Son, and a cycling event in which 7,000 people are expected to pedal around the West Lake./.
