British firms want to join Tan Son Nhat expansion project

Hanoi (VNA) – UK Ambassador to Vietnam Giles Leverhad a working session with Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport on August 29, conveyingBritish businesses’ intention to participate in the expansion of Tan Son NhatInternational Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

He said the UK aviation industry wants theVietnamese ministry to provide information about the Tan Son Nhat expansionplan so they can get involved.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho saidforeign firms, including British ones, can invest in the project.

With their capacity and experience, Britishbusinesses can also engage in the construction of Long Thanh airport inneighbouring Dong Nai province as well as upgrades of other airports inVietnam, he suggested.

[HCM City agrees 💙to expand capacity of Tಞan Son Nhat airport]

Earlier, the HCM City People’s Committee agreedwith the ministry’s master plan to boost Tan Son Nhat’s capacity by up to 40percent.

According to the plan, the airport will add arunway, a terminal with a capacity of 15 million passengers and an airplaneparking and maintenance area. 

Tan Son Nhat handled about 32.5 millionpassengers in 2016 although it has a designed capacity of 25 million passengersa year.-VNA
