London (VNA) – BritishMinister of State for Asia Nigel Adams on June 22 hosted a reception fornewly-appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Nguyen Hoang Long.

Adams welcomed Long takinghis new mission as Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK at a time when bilateralrelations are growing fruitfully.

He expressed his delightat significant development steps of the bilateral relationship over the pastyears and thanked Vietnam for supporting the UK to become a Dialogue Partner ofthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its bid to join theComprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The new ambassador, forhis part, said Vietnam is committed to implementing the “Joint Declaration onUK-Vietnam Strategic Partnership: Forging ahead for Another 10 Years,” in orderto beef up the bilateral cooperation in all areas in a more practical andeffective manner, and to promote the implementation of the UK-Vietnam FreeTrade Agreement (UKVFTA).

Long held that Vietnam andthe UK should step up collaboration in multiple fields, including politics,diplomacy, defence, security, economy, trade, education, and culture, as thetwo nations are heading towards the celebration of the 50th foundinganniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023.

On the occasion, he askedAdams to help Vietnam gain access to COVID-19 vaccine supplies, production technologyand medicine for COVID-19 treatment.

The British official affirmedthat Vietnam is in the UK’s priority list of COVID-19 vaccine access.

He wished Long success duringhis term of office in the UK and pledged to stand ready to assist the Ministryof Foreign Affairs and Embassy of Vietnam in the UK in deploying priorityforeign affairs./.
