Hanoi (VNA) – A bookentitled “Internet of Things (IoT) from Hype to Reality”made its debut at a workshop held by the World Bank in Vietnam and the Ministryof Science and Technology in Hanoi on March 6.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Enterprises and Market Development Department TranXuan Dich stressed that IoT is the foundation of the fourth industrial revolution(Revolution 4.0) and have become closer to the reality.
In many countries, enterprises have used IoT as a tool to promote socio-economicdevelopment, while State-owned enterprises have yet to pay due attention to thetrend, he said.
Under the pressure of innovation, policy makers are forced to be more openabout this, thus raising public awareness of the efficiency and great interestof IoT, Dich said.
Delivering a report on IoT at the event, Prasanna LalDas, a representative from the WB, said governments of many countries have usedIoT to better serve their people but they also meet several certain difficultiessuch as business models are not capable of maintaining IoT infrastructure.
He stressed that the report is an initial step to evaluate the progress made bygovernments of countries in applying IoT to reality.
The report pointed out some examples of IoT application in some countries such asGermany, Canada, the UK, Estonia, Kazakhstan, India, Japan, the US and theUnited Arab Emirates (UAE).
The book “Internet of Things from Hype to Reality” provides acomprehensive IoT network and management overview with emphasis on gaps,opportunities, and open research problems.
