Bird flu, cattle epidemic put under control

The news was announced by Director of the Animal Health Department underthe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Pham Van Dongduring a May 21 meeting of the National Steering Committee for Bird FluPrevention and Control in Hanoi .

A locality candeclare the end of bird flu epidemic if 21 days pass without any newinfections since the latest outbreak. By now, only the bird flu outbreakin southern Vinh Long province has not yet met the 21-day requirement,while the northern provinces of Nam Dinh and Bac Ninh are expectedto announce the end of blue-ear disease on pigs next week.

However, the committee warned of high risk of new outbreaks in thecoming time, urging local authorities to keep up supervision andintensify preventive measures, including strict application ofquarantine regulations and popularisation of information on avianinfluenza.

It is noteworthy that the bird fluepidemic on salanganes raised in farms in some localities has beencontained. The MARD’s Animal Health and Livestock Breeding Departmentsand relevant agencies are now working on regulations on salanganefarming.-VNA

Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfe⛎r

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
