Three national centres for bio-technology will be established in the country as part of a recently approved plan for developing a network of facilities serving the sector by 2025. The centres will be equipped with modern and comprehensive facilities in line with international standards and a capable workforce – between 200-500 persons each – to effectively serve bio-technology studies at the national level as well as trial production and practical applications.
From 2016-2020, a centre will be built in the central region and two centres for the north and south will be developed from the Institute of Biotechnology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Centre for Bio-technology in Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, improvements will be fostered within 10 other national-level bio-technology laboratories in terms of advanced facilities and human resources. The network of institutes, centres and laboratories will be expanded across ministries and public and private industries in accordance with the development plan for the sector.
Bio-technology studies will be strengthened at provincial levels in line with local socio-economic development plans. Bi-technology is considered as a key sector besides information technology and new building materials technology. It has huge potentials for development in the future.-VNA
