Binh Phuoc (VNA) – Authorities in the southern province of Binh Phuoc have commenced the construction of 37 new houses as part of an initiative to replace makeshift and dilapidated homes in Bu Gia Map, a border district.

Beneficiaries are those residing in the communes of Bu Gia Map, Dak O, Phuoc Minh, Binh Thang, and Da Kia. Each newly built house will cover an area of 60 square metres, with construction support amounting to 80 million VND (3,136 USD) per unit, while assistance for repairs is set at 40 million VND per house.

Currently, the district has 183 households classified as poor or near-poor, along with seven homes designated for renovation or reconstruction for revolution contributors.

Ly Trong Nhan, Secretary of the district Party Committee, said that achieving the provincial target of eliminating makeshift and substandard housing by June 30 requires strong commitment from the local political system and public consensus.

The official called on the district’s steering committee to finalise necessary documentation and allocate funds for the remaining 142 houses that have been assessed as eligible for construction. Work on these units is expected to commence by March 20.
