Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam's beach soccer team has departed for Thailand to undergo training and compete in the 2025 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup, set to take place in Pattaya from March 20-30.

Before departing, head coach Mai Van Duc finalised the list, trimming the roster from 20 to 14 players. The team will play two friendly matches against China on March 15 and Saudi Arabia on March 16 before the announcement of the final 12-player squad for the tournament.

The 2025 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup features 16 national teams, divided into four groups of four. Vietnam has been drawn into Group D, alongside Oman, Bahrain, and Malaysia. It is a challenging group, as Oman and Bahrain are among the top beach soccer teams in Asia, while Malaysia has reached the quarter-finals twice in their last four tournament appearances.

𒐪 The group stage will follow a round-robin format, with teams earning points based on FIFA beach soccer regulations. The top three teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, scheduled for May in Seychelles./.
