A Thai police team has been dispatched to Malaysia to track down the suspected bomber in last month's deadly bomb attack at Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, said Deputy National Police Chief Chakthip Chaijinda on September 10.
The decision was made following the discovery that a bombing suspect had snuck out of the country through the southern border in Narathiwat province’s Sungai Kolok district.
The man was likely to be the yellow-shirt suspect seen leaving backpack containing a bomb at the Erawan Shrine on August 17.
Earlier, Thai police said that the suspected bomb instigator could possibly have left for Bangladesh on the eve of the blast.
Thai authorities are asking for support from the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and Bangladeshi authorities to hunt the bombing mastermind.
To date, Thai police have issued arrest warrants for 11 suspects involved in the blast.
