Awards presented to best entries of caricature contest

Hanoi (VNA) – The nine best entries of the fifthVietnam Press Caricature Contest were awarded at a ceremony in Hanoi on January11.

The contest, organised by the The thao va Vanhoa (Sports and Culture) newspaper of the Vietnam News Agency, was themed“Cultural Behaviours, Civilised Society”.

The first prize went to the painting “Chuc cho”(Waiting) by Le Dieu Bang with pen name Meo.

Two second prizes, two third prizes and fourconsolation prizes were also granted at the ceremony.

Editor-in-Chief of the The Thao va Van hoanewspaper Le Xuan Thanh, head of the organising board, said the contest resumedin 2018 after a several-year hiatus. It attracted about 400 entries thatcriticize wrong behaviours and support civilised ones. Notably, more than 30percent of them focus on conduct on social networks.

Congratulating the winners, Vice Chairman of theVietnam Journalists Association Ho Quang Loi said the contest’s success showsthat caricature is still a “sharp weapon” of painter journalists and pressagencies. Caricatures attract public attention to important issues as they areable to directly affect the awareness of people from all social strata,regardless of their educational level, age and language.

On this occasion, a 60-page book was publishedto introduce the outstanding entries of the contest. The 60 best caricatureswill also be exhibited on the pedestrian street near Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi onJanuary 12 and 13. –VNA
