Asian Parliamentary admits two new members

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) wrapped up its fourth plenary meeting in Indonesia ’s Bandung city on Dec. 10 with the admission of two new members – the Indian and Kazakhstani parliaments.
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) wrapped up its fourth plenary meeting inIndonesia ’s Bandung city on Dec. 10 with the admission of two new members – theIndian and Kazakhstani parliaments.

At the final session of the three-daymeeting, the participants adopted the “Bandung Statement”, which dealt mostlywith the promotion of democracy, human rights, climate change and the role ofAsian parliaments in creating peace and justice in the region.

Alsoadopted was a resolution regarding the situation of Palestine that includedopinions concerning the wording of the formal statement from delegates of theRepublic of Korea , Singapore and Russia .

APA has so far had 41parliament members and 18 parliamentary observers.

The IndonesianParliament took the APA chairmanship in 2008 and 2009.

The APA’s fifthmeeting will take place in Syria in 2010./.

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations.
