Jakarta (VNA) – The Vietnamese national footballteam arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 11 to compete in the upcoming 18thAsian Games (ASIAD) 2018.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang and Vietnamesenationals living in Indonesia welcomed the team at Soekarno Hatta internationalairport.
Listed in Group D with Japan, Pakistan and Nepal, theVietnamese team will face Pakistan in the first match on August 14.
Coach Park Hang-seo said overcoming the qualifying round isthe team’s initial goal.
Head of the delegation Duong Vu Lam said all players are ingood health and ready to compete in the tournament.
In the afternoon the same day, they came to a hotel inCikarang, nearly 70km from the airport, where they stay during the event.
All three matches will take place at Wibawa Mukti stadium,about 5km from the hotel.
The ASIAD 2018 will be officially held in the two major Indonesian cities -Jakarta and Palembang - from August 18 to September 2.
The Vietnamese delegation will consist of 523 people, including 352 athletes. Theyaim to snatch at least three gold medals.
At the previous ASIAD in 2014, Vietnam won one gold, 10 silver and 25 bronzemedals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally.-VNA
