ASIAD 2018: Hundreds of athletes already arrive in Palembang

Jakarta (VNA) – Around 350athletes from 15 countries and territories have already been in Palembangcapital of South Sumatra province, Indonesia to compete at the Asian Games2018.

According to the Jakabaring Sports City, athletes from Thailand, the Republicof Korea, Nepal, Hong Kong (China), India, Iran, Maldives and Japan have beenpresent in Palembang from August 10.

As many as 143 Vietnamese athletes arrived here to join in such events as menand women’s football, shooting, volleyball, boat racing, and sepak takraw.

Jakabaring Sports City spokesman Mirza Zulkarnain said that the sport complexhas prepared nine buildings capable of accommodating 3,100 people for theathletes and officials to stay.

Athletes’ accommodations have facilities equivalent to those of a two-starhotel, with three people per room, he said.

Besides menus prepared in accordance with international standards, the athleteswill be provided with free laundry service.

Mirza Zulkarnain noted that with meticulous preparation, the Jakabaring SportCity can offer athletes and officials the best services during their stay.

TheASIAD 2018 will officially take place in the two major Indonesian cities -Jakarta and Palembang - from August 18 to September 2. Some 16,000 athletes andofficials are expected to join the event.-VNA
