Jakarta (VNA) – The ASEAN Secretariat on May 28 held a press briefing at its headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, to announce the outcomes of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Speaking at the briefing, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn highlighted the adoption of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, describing it as a key document that will guide the region’s development and cooperation over the next two decades.

The ASEAN chief stressed that one of the most significant outcomes of the summit was the official endorsement of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, along with strategic plans structured around the four main pillars of political-security, economy, culture-society, and connectivity.

He also shared updates from discussions among ASEAN leaders, including achievements across all pillars of cooperation, progress in the admission process of Timor-Leste as a full member of the bloc, and collaboration matters in such areas such as energy security and artificial intelligence. Further highlights of the summit included ASEAN’s active engagement in addressing the regional impacts of US tariff policies, advancing negotiations to upgrade relations to comprehensive strategic partnerships with key dialogue partners, and promoting ties with the Gulf region.
