ASEAN, Mekong River Commission discuss water security

Vientiane (VNA)ꦆ – The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Mekong River Commission (MRC) kicked off the second round of talks on water security in Vientiane, Laos, on September 18.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Chief of the Standing Office of the Vietnam Mekong River Commission Nguyen Thi Thu Linh attended the event. The second ASEAN-MRC Water Security Dialogue was a unique platform that tackled the pressing issues of water scarcity, pollution, and water-related disaster risks in the Mekong from the perspective of a connected and resilient Southeast Asia.
High-ranking officials, experts and partners from the Mekong River region and ASEAN member countries defined opportunities for cooperation, and discussed policies and technologies to deal with water security challenges.
The dialogue was initiated under the cooperation framework signed in 2018 between ASEAN and the MRC. The first event of its kind was co-organised by the MRC Secretariat and the ASEAN Secretariat in August 2021./.
