ASEAN, India strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership

ASEAN and India reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership at the 25th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting (AISOM) on March 7.

Jakarta (VNA) - ASEAN and India reaffirmedtheir commitment to further strengthen their comprehensive strategicpartnership at the 25th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting (AISOM) on March7.

The senior officials exchanged views on thedevelopments in ASEAN and in India and reviewed cooperation between both sides.The meeting noted the steady progress in the implementation of the ASEAN-IndiaPlan of Action (POA) for 2021-2025 and looked forward to the finalisation ofthe Annex to the POA to ensure that their partnership becomes substantive andmutually beneficial in the coming years.

The meeting also discussed ways to furtherstrengthen cooperation in several areas of mutual interest including maritimeactivities, transnational crimes, cybersecurity, science and technology,transport and connectivity, digital economy, fintech, tourism, agriculture,environment, sustainable development, and public health.

Furthermore, both sides also exchanged views on how to enhance people-to-people contacts through exchangeprogrammes involving youth, students, media and artists, scholarshipsprogrammes, and capacity building and training courses.

Both sides expressed shared interest and aspirationin ensuring regional peace, security and stability, and acknowledged the needto exert efforts to materialise the implementation of the ASEAN-India JointStatement on Cooperation on the ASEAN Outlook on the India-Pacific for Peace,Stability and Prosperity in the Region.

They noted with satisfaction the implementation ofthe commemorative activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of theASEAN-India relations in 2022 including the Special ASEAN-India ForeignMinisters’ Meeting, the inauguration of the ASEAN-India Network of Universities(AINU), ASEAN-India Media Exchange, and ASEAN-India Youth Summit, among others./.
