Hanoi (VNA) – The ASEAN-India Connectivity Summit kicked off in India’s capital cityof New Delhi on December 11 under the theme of “Powering digital and physicallinkages for Asia in the 21st century.”
The two-day event aims to promote prospects for digital and physical linkagesbetween ASEAN and India, identify relevant matters, implement proposals onsuitable policies and develop strategies enhancing economic, industrial andcommercial ties between the two sides.
ASEAN brings together ten countries, includingBrunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines,Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
ASEAN and India have a total population of 1.85 billion, making up a quarter ofthe world’s total figure.
Their accumulated gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to exceed 3.8trillion USD. Two-way trade revenue stood at 65.04 billion USD in 2015-2016,accounting for 10.12 percent of the total trade value between India and theworld.
Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi has recently affirmed that enhancingIndia-ASEAN connectivity by road, sea and air routes is India’s top priority.
He said the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway will be expanded to threeother countries.-VNA
