ASEAN improves disaster management capacity

Jakarta (VNA) - The Mission of the Republic of Koreato ASEAN and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistanceon Disaster Management (AHA Centre) have launched the ASEAN Standards andCertification for Experts in Disaster Management (ASCEND) project.

With the aim of improving the capacity of regionalexperts in disaster management, the project will be carried out between 2020and 2023 at a total cost of 3.35 million USD, financed by the ASEAN-RoKCooperation Fund.

Speaking at the online launch, Ambassador of the Republicof Korea (RoK) to ASEAN Lim Sung-nam expressed his hope that the disastermanagement system using RoK technology will contribute to turning ASEAN intoone of the leading regions worldwide in the field by 2025.

👍 ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi, for his part,hailed the RoK Government for its commitments to contributing to ASEAN-ledefforts such as the ASEAN Response Fund for COVID-19 and the repatriationprocess in Myanmar’s Rakhine state./.
