Finance ministers from ASEAN countries and representatives ofinternational organisations looked into the regional financial situation anddevelopment issues during the 24th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ Meetingheld online on October 2.

They also debatedthe outlook for the regional economy, ASEAN infrastructure, and connectivityinitiatives, as well as the sustainable development programme.

The COVID-19pandemic has seriously impacted not only economic activities but also effortsto deal with regional development issues, they agreed.

Given this, theWorld Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have rolled out financialaid packages for regional countries. In addition, the G20’s Debt ServiceSuspension Initiative (DSSI) has been expanded, helping 43 countries andterritories defer 5 billion USD in official debt service payments.

A representativefrom the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance highlighted its country's efforts in completingsolutions towards sustainable development, saying the Vietnamese Governmentwill pay more attention to infrastructure development, social welfare, andclimate change response.

Vietnam willcontinue to exchange information and use aid packages effectively and transparently,he pledged.

Delegates laudedVietnam’s initiative to build a roadmap for the development of the ASEANcapital market with four priorities: intensifying platforms, developingproducts, accessing untapped areas, and enhancing awareness, capacity, andconnectivity./.
