Beijing (VNA) – The ASEAN-ChinaYear of Media Exchanges kicked off at a ceremony held in the Chinese capitalcity of Beijing on February 20 evening.

In a congratulatory message, ChinesePresident Xi Jinping underlined that the launch of the ASEAN-China Year ofMedia Exchanges represents an important move toward intensifying the strategicpartnership.

The President stressed thatacting as a bridge in promoting communication, cooperation and people-to-peoplecontacts, the media can play an even greater role in the development ofChina-ASEAN ties.

He voiced his hope thatmedia from both sides could serve as messengers of friendly exchanges,facilitators of pragmatic cooperation, peace and development, making a greatercontribution to the building of the China-ASEAN community.

At the ceremony, Politburo member and head ofthe Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Publicity Department HuangKunming called on media organisations of China and ASEAN to expand and tappotential in cooperation in the spirit of friendly negotiation, equality andmutual benefit.

Meanwhile, representatives of ASEAN nations spokehighly of the two sides' media cooperation and voiced their hope to further boostexchanges, thus contributing to the enhancement of bilateral relations.

The media of both sides will launch a diverseof policies and exchange activities in the year, such as the ASEAN-Chinatelevision week and the ASEAN-China film week and a programme to jointlyproduce movies and TV series.-VNA
