ASEAN, China to confer on transnational crime

The sixth conference of ASEAN-China Prosecutors General, in Hanoi on Nov. 24-25, will focus on transnational crime, the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPP) announced at a press briefing on Nov. 19.

According to the SPP’s Vice Head Khuat Van Nga, the conference, underthe theme of “Strengthening judiciary cooperation in fighting organisedtransnational crimes,” is expected to welcome 190 delegates to takepart.

During the two-day event, the participants will discuss the judiciarysynergy between ASEAN countries and China to prevent cross-bordercrimes such as money laundering, smuggling, human trafficking,corruption and hi-tech crimes which are increasing in parallel with theeconomic development and globalisation process.

As scheduled, the conference will issue a joint statement on thecountries’ common efforts to intensify the bilateral and multilateralcooperation between the countries in the field.

The ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference is organised annually,with member countries taking turns as host. The first was held in Chinain 2004. The sixth event is the first of its kind hosted by Vietnam.

Also according to Nga, the judiciary cooperation between Vietnam andChina in the fight against crime over recent years has gainedefficiency at the national level as well as between judiciary agenciesof those localities that share the common border./.
