ASEAN advances energy integration for socio-economic development

Vientiane (VNA)🌊 - The 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM-42) and the 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-24) opened in Vientiane on September 26.

The event saw the participation of representatives from ASEAN member countries and ASEAN 8 partners, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Russia, and the US. Laos’ Minister of Energy and Mines Phoxay Xayasone said that as chair of ASEAN 2024 with the slogan "ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience", Laos will emphasise the importance of energy integration for regional socio-economic development and preparing for climate change and clean energy transitions.
ASEAN is nearing the completion of Phase No.2 of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2025. Member states are encouraged to review progress and future directions to achieve shared goals.
The AEBF-24, organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy, serves as a platform for policy-makers and businesses to exchange information and explore cooperation opportunities. The Lao minister expressed confidence that AMEM-42 and AEBF-24 will strengthen regional energy cooperation, ensuring stable and sustainable energy for all in the ASEAN community./.
