World leaders have flooded Vietnam with congratulatory messages as the country is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975–2025).
During the most intense years of the war, all of Cuba seemed to hold its breath, following every development in Vietnam, said Rafael Suengas, a revolutionary veteran who once led the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam.

Following a major reinforcement mission in March 1973, the VNA continued to send teams of technicians and telegraphers to support the LPA through late 1973 and into early 1975. During this period, it considered supporting the South not only a vital duty but a sacred responsibility.
