Da Nang(VNA) - The APEC Voices of the Future 2017 (VOF 2017) kicked off in the centralcity of Da Nang on November 6, gathering 180 delegates from 17 APEC membereconomies.
Inhis welcome remark, James Soh, Co-Chair of the APEC Voices Leadership Council,said the theme chosen by host Vietnam “Creating new dynamism, fostering ashared future”, is fitting the younger generation in the Asia-Pacific.
“Youthsexude creativity and dynamism, and when nurtured in the right direction, theycan be the driving force for a nation’s future,” he said.
Addressingthe opening ceremony, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Huynh Duc Thoappreciated the importance of the APEC Voices of the Future, which he said is aforum where young people have opportunities to approach practical knowledgeshared by leaders.
NguyenLong Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Vice Chairmanof the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam expressed his hope that the youthdelegations will actively participate in discussing the contents, programmes andaction plans, proposing initiatives and valuable solutions to promote APECyouth cooperation as well as enhancing the APEC youth’s engagement inaddressing development issues of APEC regionally and globally.
During theplenary session, delegates makepresentations on how to create new dynamism, fostering a shared future amongyoung Asian-Pacific people.
They also work in groups, focusing on four topics: the contributions of theyouth to APEC Vision beyond 2020 and the future; economic, financial and socialintegration, human resources development in the digital age and policies tosupport start-up, renovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.
As part of their working agenda, the delegates will visitseveral places in Quang Nam province, including attractive tourist destinationssuch as Tam Thanh mural village, UNESCO-recognised Hoi An ancient town, ThanhHa pottery village and the lantern makers’ in Hoi An.
The APEC Voices delegates will be rotated in small groups toattend the APEC CEO Summit 2017 on November 9 and 10.
On the evening of November 10, Quang Nam province will host the closing programme,including an art performance and exchanges between local students and theirpeers from APEC member economies.-VNA
