APEC 2017: Vietnamese, Russian Presidents hold meeting

– President Tran Dai Quang held a bilateral meetingwith Russian President Vladimir Putin in the central city of Da Nang onNovember 10 on the sidelines of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

PresidentQuang thanked the Russian President for attending the 2017 APEC EconomicLeaders Week in Da Nang, saying that his presence contributes to the success ofthe event.

Herecalled his impression at the warm welcome Russia provided for Vietnam’shigh-level delegation during its visit to the country in June 2017, and thankedthe President, Government and people of Russia for their financial assistanceto help Vietnam overcome damage caused by storm Damrey.

Vietnamgives priorities to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership withRussia, President Quang said, expressing his hope that the two sides willactively implement concrete measures to make the bilateral relations morestable, effective, benefiting the two nations’ people, and contributing topeace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Hesuggested Russia facilitate Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the Far Eastregion in accordance with the potentials and demands of the two sides.

Forhis part, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke highly of the active effortsVietnam made in hosting the APEC Year, affirming that Vietnam is always one ofthe diplomatic priorities of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hesuggested Vietnam create favourable conditions for Russian firms to joincooperation projects in infrastructure, railways, energy, fuel, automobile, useof nuclear for peaceful purposes.

PresidentPutin called for improved cultural and people-to-people exchanges, including teachingand learning Russian language in Vietnam.

PresidentQuang called on Russia to increase the sharing of information and experience,provide support for Vietnam in education-training and equipment to ensure cybersecurity, hi-tech crime prevention and control, as well as facilitatingshipment of Vietnamese aquatic products to the Russian market.

Thetwo sides expressed their pleasure at delegation exchanges at all levels,particularly senior leaders, contributing to consolidating the mutual politicaltrust.

Theyagreed that the Vietnam-Eurasia Economic Union Free TradeAgreement (VN-EAEU FTA) has resulted in positive outcomes in tradeexchanges between Vietnam and Russia, and Vietnam and the Eurasia EconomicUnion, and pledged to continue working closely together to implementeffectively the agreement.

Thetwo leaders also affirmed to continue strengthening cooperation in nationaldefence-security, science-technology, education-training, culture, tourism,labour, and among localities.

Duringthe meeting, the two sides agreed on releasing a joint statement on cooperationin ensuring international information security.-VNA
