APEC 2017: PM welcomes leaders of major businesses
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 10 received leaders of major groups and companies who were attending the APEC CEO Summit 2017 in the central city of Da Nang.

Da Nang (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 10 received leaders of major groups andcompanies who were attending the APEC CEO Summit 2017 in the central city of DaNang.
At a reception for Board Chairmanof China Southern Power Grid Li Qingkui, PM Phuc praised the group’sdetermination to put into operation the first turbine of the Vinh Tan 1 thermalpower plant in June 2018, six months ahead of schedule. The turbine project wassigned at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam in 2016.
PM Phuc welcomed the group’s planto form a joint venture with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group to investin more power plant projects under the BOT form.
However, he asked the business topay attention to handling of dust to protect the environment as part itsconstruction and operation of thermal power plants, adding that it must takemeasures to minimise impacts of these plants on beach tourism in Binh Dinh andaquatic farms in the Mekong Delta.
PM Phuc suggested the group shareChinese experiences in turning coal ash into construction materials.
During a meeting with MitsubishiChairman Omiya Hideaki, PM Phuc hailed the group’s effective investment in anumber of hi-tech projects in Vietnam, including an airplane component factoryin Hanoi.
He asked the group to expand itsinvestment in hi-tech projects in Vietnam and strengthen their cooperation intraining.
The same day, Prime Minister Phuc had a meeting with leaders of foreign anddomestic businesses which sponsor the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.
He highly valued their contributions to the nation’s important political,economic, and diplomatic event, and joining hands with the Government to makethe APEC Year successful.
He emphasized the significance of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, saying thatit has gathered leaders and enterprises from the world’s leading economies.
The event offers an opportunityfor Vietnam to promote trade liberalisation while helping APEC economiesunderstand more about the people and investment climate of Vietnam.-VNA
Vietnam has been appraised for its successful development model thanks to impressive economic growth and radical reform to attract investment, particularly after the country joined APEC forum in 1998, said PhD Arisman, director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS).
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a reception in the central city of Da Nang on November 10 for IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, who has been in Vietnam to attend the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.
