AnGiang (VNA) – ﷽The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has expanded breadingareas for material tra fish (pangasius) due to increasing export demand sincethe start of the year, said Chief of the Office of the provincial Department ofAgriculture and Rural Development Tran Dac Mau.
Accordingto the province’s statistics office, as of mid-March 2018, prices of materialtra fish remained high. The prices of young tra fish for breeding also rose dueto increasing breeding demand and are at 60,000-70,000 VND per kg. AnGiang’s farming area for tra fish harvested in the first three months of theyear was estimated at 239ha, an increase of 3.6 percent year-on-year whileoutput hit 73,000 tonnes, up 3.36 percent against the previous year’scorrespondent period. Theprovince’s farming area for tra fish currently totals 770ha, up nearly 3percent compared to one year ago. TheAn Giang Tra Fish Association (AFA) aims to have 130 households breeding trafish on a total 160ha, along with increasing the production of tra fish farmsin Chau Phu and Phu Tan districts and Tan Chau township. – VNA
The prices of tra fish (pangasius) in the Mekong Delta is hitting a record high, exceeding 30,000 VND per kilogramme, bringing high profits to local farmers, but businesses are facing shortages of material fish.
Vietnam’s frozen Tra fish fillets will be subject to antidumping duties of 2.39 – 7.74 USD per kilogramme from the United States, according to a US decision which the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) claimed unfair and providing unduly excessive protection.
