Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Television (VTV) announced on November 9 that it has acquired the right to the airing of the 2016 Southeast Asia Federation (AFF) Football Championship, or AFF Suzuki Cup 2016, in the whole Vietnam.

Nguyen Ha Nam, head of VTV Editorial Secretariat, said the VTV will broadcast all 18 matches at the AFF Cup 2016 on VTV6 and VTV6 HD channels as well as its website and app.

The VTV has the monopoly on free terrestrial television in Vietnam but does not have the monopoly on the re-broadcasting of terrestrial TV signals on cable TV, satellite TV, Internet, Mobile and IPTV.

The VTV owns the right to allow organisations in Vietnam to re-broadcast the intact programme of terrestrial TV on the condition that they do not share with paid TV forms like cable TV and satellite TV. Only those organisations which get approval from the VTV are allowed to rebroadcast the tournament’s matches.

The AFF Cup 2016 finals will take place from November 19 to December 17 with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups.

Group A comprises Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and host Philippines while Group B consists of Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and the host nation Myanmar.

꧒ The two top teams in each group will qualify for the semi-finals from which the teams will play home-and-away games to decide the winner.-VNA
