Agro-fishery-forestry export surges in first 8 months
Agro, fishery and forestry export turnover in the first eight months of this year rose 13.5 percent from the same period last year to 23.66 billion USD, the MARD reported.
Hanoi (VNA) - Agro, fishery and forestryexport turnover in the first eight months of this year rose 13.5 percent fromthe same period last year to 23.66 billion USD, reported the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development.
Turnover was estimated at 3.1 billion USD inAugust alone.
In the first eight months, agricultural exportvalue was estimated at 12.6 billion USD, up 17.2 percent from the same periodlast year, while seafood exports fetched 5.13 billion USD, up 18.1 percent andforestry products saw an increase of 9.6 percent to 5.07 billion USD.
Rice exports garnered 220 million USD with 504,000 tonnes inAugust, raising the total rice export value to 1.75 billion USD with 3.96million tonnes, up 17.5 percent in value and 19.8 percent in volume year onyear.
China remained the largest market for Vietnamese rice,accounting for 41 percent of total export volume, followed by Malaysia with 7.3percent.
Coffee shipments reached 1.02 million tonnes forexport value of 2.33 billion USD, down 19.9 percent in volume but up 3 percentin value.
Rubber exports stood at 795,000 tonnes fornearly 1.36 billion USD, marking an 11.2 percent growth in volume and a 52percent increase in value over the same period last year.
Pepper exports were estimated at 165,000 tonnes,worth 889 million USD, up 21.6 percent in volume but down 19.5 percent invalue.
Cashew nut exports fell by 1.1 percent in volume whilesurging by nearly 25 percent in value thanks to a 27 percent increase inprices. The sector shipped 223,000 tonnes abroad, worth 2.2 billion USD.
In the reviewed period, exports of fruit and vegetables earned2.32 billion USD, up 46.5 percent year on year. China, Japan, the US and theRepublic of Korea are among the top importers of Vietnamese fruit andvegetables.
Meanwhile, agro, fishery and forestry imports in the first eightmonths of this year amounted to 19.17 billion USD, including 2.69 billion USDin August.-VNA
The export value of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products reached 7.6 billion USD in the first three months of 2017, a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent.
Export turnover of agro-forestry-aquatic products hit 2.97 billion USD in June, bringing the six-month figure to 17.1 billion USD, up 13.1 percent year-on-year.
The agricultural sector will aim for a GDP growth rate of between 3 – 3.1 percent and total export value of agro-forestry-fisheries at 34 – 35 billion USD in 2018.
