Age Group Swimming Championship opens in Da Nang

Some 262 swimmers from eight Southeast Asian countries are joining in the 39th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship, which opened in the central coastal city of Da Nang on December 4.

Da Nang (VNA)ღ - Some 262 swimmers from eight Southeast Asian countries are joining in the 39th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship, which opened in the central coastal city of Da Nang on December 4.

The competitors are divided into three age groups, U13s, 14-15 and 16-18, who will compete for 105 sets of medals.
The three-day tournament brings together outstanding swimmers in the region such as Welson Sim and Wong Fu Kang from Malaysia, Prawira A. Fadlan and Fachri Mahamad from Indonesia, Dylan Koo and Tzen Wei Teong from Singapore, Xiandi Chua from the Philippines and Fonpray Yamsuan from Thailand, among others. Vietnam sent 52 athletes to the annual event, including Lam Quang Nhat, Nguyen Diep Phuong and Duy Khoi.
Fifteen records were set on the first day of competition. Singapore has taken the lead in the medal tally with 37 medals (11 gold, nine silver and 17 bronze), followed by Vietnam with 21 medals (10 gold, eight silver and three bronze). The Vietnamese delegation came first at last year’s event, pocketing 19 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze medals.-VNA
