- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh joined leaders of other ASEAN member countries and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at the 12th ASEAN-US Summit in Vientiane on October 11.

At the summit, Vietnam highly valued the significance of the ASEAN-US comprehensive strategic partnership, and expected that the US will continue to deeply, extensively, and actively engage in the region, maintaining its responsible and long-term commitments to the grouping, and supporting ASEAN in community building and promoting its central role in shaping a regional architecture of open, inclusion, and transparency with respect to international law. - Vietnam considers Japan as a leading important, reliable, and long-term partner, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed while meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in Vientiane, Laos, on October 11, on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.

This is the first meeting between the two PMs since Ishiba took office on October 1. Read full story

- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on October 11 on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos.

PM Chinh thanked the Indian Government leader for sending a letter of sympathy to and providing Vietnam with 35 tonnes of goods worth 1 million USD as emergency aid to support Typhoon Yagi-hit localities, which, he said, demonstrates the sound friendship, traditional relations, and the Comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese vowed to enhance cooperation between the two countries, for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region, in their meeting in Vientiane on October 11.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested Vietnam and Indonesia soon raise the bilateral trade revenue to 18 billion USD in a more balanced manner, at his meeting with Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Laos on October 11.

Chinh and Amin rejoiced at the progress of the bilateral strategic partnership, particularly as they are preparing for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations (1955-2025) and the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day and Vietnam’s National Day. - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov in Vientiane, Laos, on October 10 on the occasion of their attendance at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.

At the meeting, Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia. He thanked the Russian Government and people for promptly sharing and sending aid to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi. Read full story

- The State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) wishes to foster cooperation with the National Audit Office (NAO) of the UK, especially in the fields of specialised auditing, information technology application in auditing activities, and human resources training, stated Auditor General Ngo Van Tuan at his recent meeting with British Comptroller and Auditor General Gareth Davis in London.

At the meeting, part of the SAV delegation’s visit to the UK from October 7-10, Tuan highlighted three key pillars in the SAV’s development strategy until 2030, including human resources training and information technology application in auditing activities, and expressed his hope to promote partnership with NAO in these fields.Read full story

- The World Trade Organisation (WTO) on October 10 released its Global Trade Outlook and Statistics, in which it affirms Vietnam and Mexico have emerged as “connecting” economies – stepping in as the source for many products - in the restructuring of global supply chains that serve the US market.

In its report, the WTO revised its forecast for world merchandise trade growth in 2024 to 2.7%, up slightly from the previous estimate of 2.6%, and to 3.0% in 2025 from 3.3% previously. Read full story

- HSBC has lifted its 2024 gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for Vietnam to 7.0% from 6.5% after the country recorded stronger-than-expected growth in Q3 despite the devastation left by Typhoon Yagi.

From a challenging 2023 and Q1, Vietnam is clearly back as ASEAN’s growth star, the bank said in its update “Vietnam at a glance: In its own league” released on October 11./. Read full story
