Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, paid a working visit to Angola from May 26-29.

At meetings with leaders of the ruling People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and some Angolan ministries, Nghia stated that the visit aimed to bolster the traditional solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between the two countries’ Parties, States, and people and also to work towards the 50th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 2025. - The Vietnamese Government will continue to support and facilitate cooperation between the finance ministries of Vietnam and Laos, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed in Hanoi on May 30.

At a reception for visiting Lao Minister of Finance Santiphab Phomevihane , he said the Vietnamese Party, State, and people always give top priority to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. Read full story

- Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received Anna Krystyna Radwan-Röhrenschef, Undersecretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Hanoi on May 29.

- A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by deputy head of its Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Ngo Le Van attended the 41st meeting of the Standing Committee and the 2nd meeting of the Business Council (IBC-2) of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) held in Bangkok from May 27-30.

The committee focused on major directions and measures to promote the role of political parties and governments in solving conflicts by peaceful means, and respecting international law; and promote ICAPP's international influence in regional and international political life. Read full story

- The Masan High-Tech Materials Group (MHT) and the Japanese-based Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (MMC) signed a definitive agreement on May 30, with the latter fully acquiring the former’s member company of H.C. Starck Holding (Germany) GmbH (HCS) at a cost of 134.5 million USD.

The two sides will also enter into a long-term, win-win APT and tungsten oxide offtake agreement. As a part of the agreement, Masan is expected to retain its ownership in Nyobolt, a fast-charging Lithium-ion battery technology company based in the UK. Masan is also expected to retain potential monetary upside from future commercialisation of black mass technology intellectual property developed by the HCS. Read full story

- An upward trend has been recorded in Chinese recent investments in Vietnam, which is hoped to help fuel the industries the country has demand for such as high technology, renewables, supporting industries, electronics, and green finance.

More than 11.07 billion USD in foreign investment was registered during the first five months of 2024, up 2% year on year, reported the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Read full story
