– National Assembly (NA) deputies will discuss the national target programme on cultural development for the 2025-2035 period on June 19 as part of the legislature's 7th session.

The three-phase programme focuses on activities in the areas of culture and arts, including cultural heritage, grassroots culture, performing arts, fine arts, photography and exhibition. Read full story

- Commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming state visit to Vietnam, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam G.S. Bezdetko has highlighted its significance as the highest diplomatic protocol in the bilateral relations.

Speaking to the press on June 19, Bezdetko noted that President Putin will lead a delegation of leaders of the Russian Federation, regions, and major businesses during the June 19-20 visit. He will have talks and meetings with Vietnamese leaders and alumni of the former Soviet Union and Russian universities. The two sides are expected to issue a joint statement and sign cooperation agreements in higher education, justice, customs, healthcare, energy, and science. Read full story

– Vietnamese and Russian experts gathered at a conference held in Moscow on June 18 to discuss the Vietnam-Russia relations 30 years after the signing of the bilateral Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations.

Addressing the event, Vice Director of the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies (IOS) Dr. Valentin Golovachev said that over the period, the treaty has shown its value through time. Read full story

– Vietnam has rolled out a series of measures to strictly manage weapons, including the issuance of legal documents that ensure the arms will not get into the hands of criminals, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, said on June 18.

At the fourth UN Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (UN PoA) and the International Tracing Instrument (ITI), Giang expressed his concern over the risks of the spread of illegal weapons during and after conflicts. - Vietnam, on behalf of the Core Group which also includes Bangladesh and the Philippines, will table the 2024 Resolution on Climate Change and Human Rights with the theme of ensuring human rights in the energy transition process at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s 56th session that opened in Geneva on June 18.

The resolution has been actively introduced annually by Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines for the council’s consideration and approval since 2009, with a different theme for each year. Read full story

– Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai has recently had separate meetings with General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) D.Raja and Vijay Chauthaiwale, who is in charge of the Indian ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Department of Foreign Affairs.

Receiving the diplomat in New Delhi on June 17, D.Raja expressed pleasure at the rapid development and foreign economic achievements of Vietnam under the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s leadership, while acknowledging the sound growth of Vietnam-India relations. Read full story

- The northwestern province of Dien Bien on June 19 held a memorial and burial service for the remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Laos.

The remains of these unknown martyrs were found in Ngoi district, Laos’s Luang Prabang province, in the second phase of the search in the 2023-2024 dry season./. Read full story
