Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency. - The 15th National Assembly’s 9th extraordinary session kicked off in Hanoi on February 12 morning, with the opening broadcast live by the Vietnam Television (VTV) and Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

- The 15th National Assembly’s 9th extraordinary session aims to urgently review and decide on many critical issues serving the streamlining and restructuring of the political system, laying the foundation for personnel work at the 14th National Party Congress, and the elections of the 16th NA and all-level People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the session on the morning of February 12, Man said that legislators will discuss and decide on solutions to overcome difficulties and obstacles related to institutions and policies. These solutions aim to create breakthroughs in completing infrastructure, optimising resources, and opening new avenues for development, ultimately ensuring the successful implementation of the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress. - The National Assembly (NA) heard a report and a verification report on the revised 2025 socio-economic development plan which targets a growth rate of at least 8%, at the opening session of the 15th NA’s 9th extraordinary sitting on February 12.

Presenting the report, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung stated that, thanks to the high determination, great efforts, and decisive actions from the entire political system, people, and businesses under the leadership of the Party, especially the Politburo and the Secretariat, the country successfully and comprehensively fulfilled the socio-economic development goals for 2024, with all 15 key targets met or exceeded. - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will launch a direct flight service from Ho Chi Minh City to Beijing, China, via Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), the world’s largest airport, on March 30.

- The labour management board at the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan on February 12 contacted labour unions to gather updates and implement citizen protection measures for a Vietnamese worker who was assaulted by a Japanese national.
