Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting with ministries and sectors on late April 7 to discuss the development of balanced and sustainable trade with the US.

The event took place shortly after his conference with Vietnam’s overseas representative agencies the same day to seek proactive adaptation to the new situation of international trade. It was the Government’s third meeting on trade with the US in the wake of President Donald Trump’s announcement of the new tariff policy. Read full story

– Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tran Thanh Man met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on April 7 afternoon (local time), within the framework of his official visit to the Central Asian country and his attendance at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150).

– The Government on April 7 issued Resolution No. 74/NQ-CP on a plan to implement the arrangement of administrative units and building a two-tier local government model.

The plan clearly defines a roadmap and tasks to be accomplished at each stage, ensuring alignment with practical realities to successfully achieve the objectives, requirements, tasks, and solutions outlined in the conclusions of the Party Central Committee's Politburo and Secretariat. – Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first quarter of 2025 were estimated at 1.7 quadrillion VND (65.5 billion USD), up 9.9% year-on-year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).

Of the figure, retail sales of goods reached 1.3 trillion VND, accounting for 76.8% of the total, and up 8.8% from the same period last year. Revenue from accommodation and food services rose by 14% year-on-year to 200.1 trillion VND, while that from tourism and travel services increased by 18.3% to 21.5 trillion VND, making up 11.7% and 1.3% of the total, respectively. – Total capital injected into the economy in the first three months of the year—including additional capital from existing enterprises—reached nearly 1.39 quadrillion VND, almost 2.1 times higher than the same period last year, reflecting a positive trend in business investment, reported the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance.

Vietnam saw the establishment of 36,400 new enterprises in the first quarter of 2025, with total registered capital approximating 356.8 trillion VND (13.7 billion USD). Read full story

The Trump administration has announced a 10% tariff on all imports into the North American country while higher rates could be imposed on major trading partners, including a substantial 46% tariff on Vietnamese goods, with the textile and footwear sector among the hardest hit. Read full story

– The tax revenue from online business activities reached 34.5 trillion VND (over 1.3 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2025, up 19% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

– Vietnam has so far replaced 189,243 makeshift and dilapidated homes across the country, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Of these, 92,291 houses have been completed, while construction has begun on 96,952 new ones. The total includes 18,024 homes for people who rendered service to the revolution, 64,900 under two national target programmes, and 106,319 as part of a campaign on elimination of substandard houses.
