AFD–funded lighting system in Dien Bien inaugurated

Dien Bien (VNA) – A lighting system for Muong Thanh bridge of the northwestern province of Dien Bien funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) was inaugurated on May 5, as part of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
As part of activities in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the project was handed over to the Dien Bien province Relics Management Board for management and operation.

The highlight of the lighting system is designed based on the unique structure of the bridge, applying a special colour blending technique, creating intriguing effects for viewers.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Minh Phu said the project contributes to creating a distinctive highlight for Dien Bien Phu, thus attracting tourists to Dien Bien.

Having identified the strategic resolve to advance and annihilate the enemy at Dien Bien Phu, a major concern of the Party Central Committee was the provision of food and ammunition and ensuring logistical routes remained open for the tens of thousands of frontline troops fighting in rear areas for a long period of time.
Seventy years have passed since the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, a 56-day historic campaign whose victory directly led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilities in Vietnam. The once-young soldiers that took part in the battle are now in their 90s. Though their health may be on the decline, their memories of the epic battle never fade.
The Dien Bien Phu Victory 70 years ago (May 7, 1954) was one of the prominent battles of the 20th century, said Anatoly Sokolov, a Russian Vietnamologist and Associate Prof., Doctor of Literature, while talking with a Vietnam News Agency’s resident reporter in Moscow.
