The Vietnamese Embassy in India and the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee - West Bengal chapter jointly held a ceremony on August 26 to install the President Ho Chi Minh memorial plate at Hotel The Lalit Great Eastern where the Vietnamese late leader stayed during his first visit to the city of Kolkata on June 1, 1946.

Speaking at the event, which was held to mark Vietnam’s 70 th National Day (September 2), West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi praised the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh who led the Vietnamese people to overcome the two resistance wars and reunite, and is admired by people around the world, including those from India and Kolkata.

The installation of the memorial plate reflected Kolkata’s love for him, he affirmed.

On the occasion, a Vietnamese cultural exchange night was organised at the hotel, with the participation of over 250 guests. Vietnamese artists entertained the guests with performances praising President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese land and people.

Vietnamese Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh and Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum Nguyen Thuy Duc also had a working session with leaders of the Kolkata National Library to discuss establishing a Vietnam Corner to promote the image of the country’s land and people at the museum.

The diplomat and other staff also laid a wreath at the President Ho 🔥Chi M🀅inh statue in downtown Kolkata city.-VNA
