Hanoi (VNA) – The 42nd Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS 42)wrapped up in Hanoi on August 23.

The four-day event, themed “Cooperation Among Indo-AsianPacific Land Forces in Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Response,”  was co-hosted by the General Staff of theVietnam People’s Army (VPA) and the US Army Pacific Command (USARPAC).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, USARPAC Commanding GeneralRobert B.Brown affirmed that plenary sessions and activities held within theframework and on the sidelines of the seminar offered chances for participantsto share points of views as well as experience in conducting humanitarianassistance and disaster response.

He expressed his hope that participating land forces willmake use of experience and lessons shared at the seminar to take the initiativein responding to weather, disaster and drought changes.

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the VPA SeniorLieutenant General Pham Hong Huong affirmed that after four days of workingwith the participation of over 300 delegates from nations in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, the seminar concluded successfully.

Discussions at the seminar pointed out that the regionsuffers a lot of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, storms andfloods every year, and underlined the important role of armies, especially landforces, in responding to emergency circumstances when a disaster occurs.

He said he believes that contents discussed will help landforces to build effective response plans.

The next PAMS will be held in Thailand.-VNA
