Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Hanoi (VNA) - Son La, Binh Dinh, Binh Phuoc, and Hau Giang provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19🐷 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministr💙y of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
Among them, Binh Dinh stood out for its proactive approach, having launched its housing programme in 2020, ahead of the national campaign initiated in 2024. The south-central province completed the construction or repair of over 4,400 homes in eight months, demonstrating high efficiency through broad social mobilisation and active community engagement.
The northwestern mountainous province Son La removed over 3,000 substandard homes, while southern provinces of Binh Phuoc and Hau Giang completed work on 765 and nearly 1,500 homes, respectively. The beneficiaries included revolution contributors, ethnic minority households, and low-income families.
Minister Dao Ngoc Dung praised Binh Dinh for its decisive, innovative approach and called on localities to maintain momentum in the national emulation movement to eliminate substandard housing by 2025.
Local authorities have been actively mobilising state budgets, national target programmes, and community resources to ensure the timely and quality implementation of housing support, with close monitoring to guarantee transparency and effectiveness./.
As of May 13, An Giang broke ground on 2,957 homes under this programme, including 2,453 new constructions and 465 renovations. The province has already completed and delivered 2,482 homes to residents. As much as 215.5 billion VND (8.3 million USD) has been mobilised for the efforts.
The ministry has worked with central and local agencies to implement a nationwide programme to replace substandard housing for policy beneficiaries, people with meritorious services, poor households, and those affected by natural disasters and climate change.
Since its launch on October 4, 2024, nearly 209,000 substandard homes have been addressed, with 111,000 completed and handed over, and construction of 98,000 others is being carried out. Notably, since the third review meeting, work on nearly 87,000 houses has been either started or completed.
