Hanoi (VNA) – The sixth session of the 14th NationalAssembly wrapped up successfully on November 20 after 22 and a half days ofsitting, with the entire working agenda fulfilled, affirmed Deputy GeneralSecretary of the National Assembly Hoang Thanh Tung.
At this session, the legislature elected General Secretaryof the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong as the newPresident of Vietnam, which drew the attention of voters and people nationwide,Tung said at a press conference on the outcomes of the session.
It also approved the proposal by the Prime Ministerregarding the removal of Truong Minh Tuan from the post of Minister ofInformation and Communications and the appointment of Nguyen Manh Hung to thispost.
Lawmakers discussed reports on the implementation of theNA’s resolutions on socio-economic development plan and the State budgetestimate for 2018, the mid-term implementation of 2016-2020 plans related tosocio-economic, economic restructuring, national financial and mid-terminvestment affairs, and the outcomes of the three-year implementation of the policiestargeting mountainous and ethnic-inhabited areas.
During the session, the legislature adopted a resolution onthe socio-economic development plan for 2019, one on the 2019 State budget projection,one on the State budget allocation for 2019 and another on adjustments to themedium-term public investment plan for 2016-2020.
Legislative work is one of the important contents of thesession, Tung stated, adding that lawmakers approved nine laws and oneresolution, and debated six other bills. The passed laws and resolution are therevised Law on Amnesty, the Law on Crop Production, the Law on AnimalHusbandry, the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guards, the law on amendments andsupplements to a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education, the Law onProtection of State Secrets, the revised Law on Corruption Prevention andControl, the revised Law on People’s Public Security Forces, and the law onamendments and supplements to several articles of 37 laws related to planning,as well as the resolution ratifying the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreementfor Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and relevant documents.
The NA reviewed reports and conducted a question-and-answersession on the implementation of the legislature’s resolutions on thematicsupervision and that of question-and-answer sessions since the beginning of thetenure until the end of the fourth session. The content of the Q&A sessioncovered a large scale, with many ideas related to the leadership, direction andadministration in almost all the fields in both executive and judicial affairs,Tung said.
The official also shared that the legislative body well conducteda vote of confidence on 48 officials holding positions elected or approved bythe legislature.
The work was implemented carefully, thoroughly, responsiblyand seriously, Tung said, adding that the results of the work showed theobjectivity of NA deputies in assessing the performance of the officials, andwill serve as a foundation for those subject to the work to promote theirachievements, learn from experience and address weaknesses to fulfill theirtasks assigned by the Party, State and people.
The legislature devoted appropriate length of time to reviewingreports on crime and legal violation prevention, the execution of judgments,corruption prevention and control, the settlement of complaints anddenunciations, and the works of the Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Courtand the Procurator General of the Supreme People's Procuracy.
It also adopted the sixth session’s resolution that willinclude the adjustment to the programme on building laws and ordinances in 2019,the extension of the implementation of the NA’s Resolution 30/2016/QH14 on thepilot issuance of e-visas for foreigners entering Vietnam in two years fromFebruary 1, 2019, and the assignment of the building of a national land usestrategy until 2045 to the Government, Tung added.-VNA
